Another nite another joint…this time it was Rib Eye Steak House at Crowne Plaza. We actually had planned for some Tea and Fauchon Savouries, but T2 after ordering Fauchon Collection of assorted chocolates was totally disappointed with the price tag versus the actual thing [five candy size peices]. So next thing you know we looked around and decided to check out Rib Eye. The place was buzzing with people but the manager Ayman Abou Zeid was very courteous to get us nice table and escorted us personally.
The place has four styles of seating arrangement. Side seating inside with cabin with cushioned seats for upto 4 people, central seating of chairs and table, side seating for two across the gallery, and group seating for upto 10-12 in a seperate dining room. interior of the place looks like the backlot of a Western movie. Well lit, great props like cowboy hats, boots, lamps, rifles and skull of buffalos too ! The waitress are dressed in Western style jeans and boots. Great smiling faces.
So here comes the menu, and a quick look T2 ordered for Classical Ceaser Salad. For the mains I decide for Fillet Mignon which i asked for medium-well done and 10oz instead of 8oz. T2 picked up Rib-Eye Chicken Cajun Sandwich. For drinks I ordered for Lime flavoured Pinacolada and T2 decided for Original Pinacolada.
First we were served with assortment of breads and dips. Thats on the house. Freshly baked breads and tortillas were a welcome relief while we chatted and waited for the food. T2 loved the Ceaser Salad sprinkled with parmesan and creamy dressing. Garlic bread with the salad was good. Drinks came, good serving size, and they were served in beer mugs [I wish if it was the real stuff ;)]. Pinacoladas had all the right combos. Fillet mignon and Sandwich were next.
Well the fillet was heavenly in taste and I made a good choice for medium-well done. The meat was juicy, tender, and the fillet was grilled perfectly. The fillet was just succulent. The servings was with barbecue sauce and lots of greens and I had asked for french fries as sides. I had a choice of mashed or baked potatoes instead of fries. Chicken Sandwich was mouthfulls of grilled chicken breast fillet. T2 was taken aback by the serving size. It was huge. The chicken was just like steak, very succulent. Served again with fries and coleslaw, very artfully presented.
Overall it was a great dining experience, and suited our taste buds. Fantastic environment, lively people, and bottomline - Meat Lovers Paradise. Worth every penny Fils spent.

T2 and I decided to watch Pirates of the Carribean the other day at Souk Sharq. So what do we do after nearly two hours of aquatic mayhem ? Well we decide to have a bite ! Ofcourse Souk Sharq is filled with all sorts of eateries right next to the cinema, and true to its nature there was aroma and whiff of food in the air. The only problem was that anything that came close to fish aroma reminded me of Davy Jones & pals so I needed something tangy, spicy, chilli flavours for my palate.
chilli’s too seemed perfect for an early evening brunch-snack-half dinner
The place was clean, service prompt, and they have designated cool looking tables with mosaic table-tops. Quick look at the menu, and we ordered for Fajita Nachos for myself and Grilled Chicken Ceaser Salad for T2. We were short on time and just needed a light meal. T2 added Diet Coke and I went for Lime Sode with Electric Blue thingy
The food arrives and we are pleasently surprised. Good Lord…thank you that I went for starters only ! The serving size is great. Fajita Nachos had chicken w/grilled onions & bell peppers on corn tostadas w/cheese, beans, jalapños, pico de gallo & sour cream, and I had ordered it with Guacamole. Probably 10-12 crispy tostados beautifully presented in a flower shape [read sunflower]. Grilled Chicken Ceaser Salad had marinated chicken breast on romaine lettuce tossed w/Caesar dressing, croutons & Parmesan cheese. T2 loved that. Drinks arrive. Diet Coke and Lime Soda. Lime Soda with Electric Blue reminded me of Matrix [Red Pill or Blue Pill]. The thing looked like it was out of Doom + Quake + Star Trek bar cocktail. Electric Blue looked like Electric Blue and taste was nice.
Having finished the food, the check arrived. Get ready for this, everything looked perfectly normal, but Lo n Behold Lime Soda already pricey KD 0.850/- now became KD 2.000 /- because of Electric Blue thingy !! T2 was laughing crazy at my face. Guys at chilli’s need to understand that they serve Lime Soda in plastic cups. If it was a lounge cocktail with all the frills of tiny umbrellas, popping cherries, even a fancy twinning straw and crystal glass I would have been comfortable with KD2.000. One word for this…RIP OFF, don’t bother ordering it. Bottomline, great place, good food, rip-off sodas
