Got myself Wataniya GPRS/EDGE service [Air-Card] couple of months back. Paid ‘non-refundable‘ KD 120/- deposit and monthly KD 10/- for unlimited usage.
The service is ok for roaming users as long as you have mobile signal in the area. But the performance has turned from OK to really sporadic lurching more towards bad. Spoke to Wataniya a couple of times about this but as usual got the same reply ‘We have notified our technical Group, they will be in touch’. And guess what…no response from them.
Seems all my investment is turning out to be a blackhole for my pocket. I need this kind of service as I spend a lot of time off-site and dial-up is no good for Remote Admin of servers. Also wi-fi or DSL is not available everywhere.
Of-course dont expect their advertised throughput of 200 Kbps [lame], the connection touches around 140 Kbps if I am in luck. BTW the Air-Card utility always shows 220 Kbps but gives througput sporadically worse than Dial-up connection [see pix]. Just in-case I use it in and around Kuwait City, so the signal should’nt be an issue.
