As usual the grand old man never ceases to amaze us with his balanced views. Amazing letter from Mahatma Gandhi on the Arab-Israeli conflict circa 1938. It should be read and printed and passed on to all involved in this region.

Wearing a Tie everyday is like a religious practice for me. Even in the heat of Kuwait where one would love to be in bermudas with Hawaiian shirts in the office, I prefer to be suited, booted and tied [pun intended] in the office. I have had the romance with ties for last few of years only. In GCC countries especially in Kuwait, the idea of business attire is actually out of the window as most of the clients I meet are dressed in Dishdashas. I dont know what they think of us non-Arabs who are decked in business attires everyday. But anyhow lets come to the main point of wearing ties.
First there are many ways to tie a tie. Dimple method, Windsor Knot etc. For learners I recommend this site Tie-a-Tie. You should buy some cheap ties and try the techniques. Just be carefull not to strangle yourself!
In Kuwait you can buy all sorts of ties from 1 KD to 50 KD or more. You can get a good selection of cheap ties from City Center which average around 3 KD per piece. All of these ties are ‘Made in China’, 100% Silk [the label says so, I believe otherwise], with a max life of around a year. Then they start to fade out, tear off, get spots, and you get bored with them. I recommend these ties as an excellent choice for beginners. They are what I call ‘Learn n Use n Throw’.
Other stores like Landmark and Debenhams offer moderately priced ties ranging from 5-10 KD ties, mix of branded stuff and alternatives. You should opt for these ties if you like to wear something new for an event or an all important corporate meeting. Sometimes you can get good deals on these ties where they sell 2-pack-ties and/or shirt+tie.
But if you like to explore the good stuff, you are looking at 25+ KD bedget per tie. Unfortunately this is not available in Kuwait. Even if you find something priced 35KD in some glam-shop in Kuwait, I would suggest to skip it. The overpriced stuff is due to the shop name.
Best ties in the World are from Europe, and good thing is you dont have to be in Europe to buy them, you can shop-online for some niche ties.Budget of 50-100 KD should be set aside for these ties. And please wear them on major event where you are the star attraction or would like to be one!
