Karachi: Arrival

Bookmark and Share

Well as planned, we flew down to Karachi yesterday evening in Air China. Three major airlines fly to Karachi, PIA, Air China and Emirates. Although Emirates is my favourite, but due to passenger traffic there were no seats available. Anyways, Emirates flies via Dubai so its added bonus, but Air China and PIA fly direct to Karachi in 3 hours straight.

We reached at 1030 pm Karachi time, and then the nightmare began. As I am not a Pakistani national but my wife is, I had to stand in this special immigration queue for foreign nationals. There were only 6 people ahead of me in the queue but the immigration officers instead of attending us were helping out their friends who were bringin passports from the back. One after another officers would turn up with 10-15 passports and get their work done, ofcourse for ’special rewards’. So after a while we started getting really pissed off at these guys who were such idiots that inspite of us openly cursing them for their behaviour they were just busy sorting out their ‘friends’.

After about 2 hours in the same queue and remember only 6th position from the counter our papers got finalised.

Jinnah International Airport is hell in terms of administrative work. We were just glad to get out of it.

So now we were on the road to main Karachi city. Traffic as any other 3rd world country is a mess, and road lights were out so its a miracle how you can drive samely on the roads. Some pot holes here and there we finally reached our destination.

More updates coming soon…with pics ofcourse.

p.s. : Dear readers if you have added comments to the post, and they do not appear, wait for couple of hours. This is due to the fact that there is power outages every now and then in Karachi and I may not have access to net at all times.
