SEAMWE4 Cable

[click for larger pic]

The South East Asia-Middle East-West Europe 4 (SEA-ME-WE 4) Submarine Cable is an approximately 18,800 KM long cable connecting Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Italy, Tunisia, Algeria and France. The system is using Terabit DWDM technology to achieve Maximum bandwidth with minimal cost.

The slowness in the internet is due to damage in the cable between Egypt and France. The restoration work will be progressive taking upto 10-15 days. This has affected countries from Egypt, GCC countries to countries in the Indian sub-continent.

Ahem..do we have an audience? First let me introduce the 9pm news.

… it starts like a barrage of artillery in the form of verbal flood bursting through the speakers. Words spoken with such acoustic flatness as a matter of fact..read from the paper like a kid cramming up Jack’n Jill went up the hill where the tongue of the newscaster seems stuck in a non-ending slurping cycle on every ’s’, and the mic feels stuck in the inner sanctums of the dental hemispheres. And the voice itself sounds dangerously and uncomfortably close to ears.

What is being conveyed to the audience is para to para, word to word, phrase to phrase that hits you in your face like a brick. If ever I had to relate torture in actual sense…it is the feeling you would get listening to the news at 9pm.

The news content is amazing as it begins somewhere in the middle of no-where and ends up spreading like fire everywhere burning the actual news reporting. There is no begining, no middle, and absolutely no end. Brings back the memories of Tarantino screenplays.

Last night in the news, every time the word Iraq came up it got replaced by Israel, every time the word Italy came up..the word got lost in oblivion only to be replaced by gibberish. And oh the pace of the whole thing…was as if one was typing the news and reading it across at the same time. Mistakes were being made faster than the actual moment of occurrence. Every mistake was getting backspaced and words were re-inserted on the fly.

What pace, what monotonous hiphopping of words, what depthness of nothingness…towards the end even the newscaster’s voice started to fade away naturally with all the hyper-exertion.

As for me I felt my ears shatter, my head screaming …enough enough enough… In the end all I could do was thank my stars that this moment came and passed by…it was 9.30pm
