Wataniya GPRS/EDGE sporadic performance

Got myself Wataniya GPRS/EDGE service [Air-Card] couple of months back. Paid ‘non-refundable‘ KD 120/- deposit and monthly KD 10/- for unlimited usage.
The service is ok for roaming users as long as you have mobile signal in the area. But the performance has turned from OK to really sporadic lurching more towards bad. Spoke to Wataniya a couple of times about this but as usual got the same reply ‘We have notified our technical Group, they will be in touch’. And guess what…no response from them.
Seems all my investment is turning out to be a blackhole for my pocket. I need this kind of service as I spend a lot of time off-site and dial-up is no good for Remote Admin of servers. Also wi-fi or DSL is not available everywhere.
Of-course dont expect their advertised throughput of 200 Kbps [lame], the connection touches around 140 Kbps if I am in luck. BTW the Air-Card utility always shows 220 Kbps but gives througput sporadically worse than Dial-up connection [see pix]. Just in-case I use it in and around Kuwait City, so the signal should’nt be an issue.

MTC-GPRS works fine with me when I need to telnet in and fix some stuff. Wataniya is launching HSDPA (currently in malls and should be full kuwait by 2006); but you would need a new card. Also, MTC is currently testing their high-speed wireless link. Expect an average of .5mb – 1mb once it is launched.

Well, there is a 3G service that should be ready real soon!! Sadly ur PCMCI Card is or will be a waste!
I am waiting desperately for the 3G card! As I am holding owning a laptop with it.
It really sad to see Wataniya being bad with thier up2date technology comparing them to MTC the 1992 years old equimpent.

Also why would anyone bother buying such an expensive service when regular DSL is available at nearly half the price. All i have to say is the service suck, its sparatic and the coverage sucks also. MTC is a better choice at this point. I wasted a week of my life with Wataniya and their “customer support” no results. Don’t waste your time. The value for the money is not even close.

I just got a new HP and my globe trotter 3g card wont fit. This hp only has a 54 pin slot. Asides of getting a new puter, any ideas where I can buy an aircard that will fit this damn new puter?

as you said, sometimes this service works brilliantly and sometimes not but when it does its damn fast. i am referring to the 3G service using the USB card.
edge is more reliable in more areas in kuwait i find because coverage of 3G is not complete.

In my point of view the bouth services are very nice, all depends of the network`s operator and the people that is working on. Most of the time this tax problems is caused by air interface`s congestion.
