Review: Udupi South Indian restaurant

Mysore Masala Dosa
Ever wondered what’s the equivalent of pizza’s popularity in India?! Dosa or rather fondly called Masala Dosa. And if you haven’t tried one, well you are missing one of best fast food exports of India.
In Kuwait if you want to enjoy a real dosa then you have to check out Udupi. They have couple of branches but the best one is in Kuwait City right next to Three Banks, opposite Doha Bank tower.
What exactly is a dosa? Well think of it as a large wrap [like saj] made from rice batter and black lentils which is cooked on a pan into a thin sheet and then filled with potato stuffing. It’s served with atleast three accompaniments, sambar [a curry made from vegetables], coconut chutney [spread], and corriander / green chilli chutney. You can check out the video below showing how a dosa is prepared. Anyways the idea behind eating dosa is that you’ve to enjoy it at the joint as its served hot and crispy. If you order takeaway, the crispiness of the wrap is lost and you wont enjoy the authentic experience of a dosa. Dosas are not spicy so it wont ruin your palate.
As for Udupi they serve a variety of dosas and make sure you try out their traditional Indian Chai [tea] it’s amazing.
