Recently they have been awarded certificate for 1st Membership in Kuwait of the ‘Clean Up the World Campaign’ in cooperation with the United Nations Environmental Protection [UNEP-CUW]
Their PR department has just sent in a circular.
Congratulations go this week for the 1st Membership in Kuwait of the ‘Clean Up the World Campaign’ in cooperation with the United Nations Environmental Protection [UNEP-CUW]. So, well done indeed to Team Leader Waleed Al-Fadhel, the Operations Director Waleed Al-Shatti and all their voluntary divers.
The Kuwait Dive Team which voluntarily operates with the Kuwaiti Environment Protection Society has received their official Member Certificate from the organisers of UNEP-CUW. [This was arranged by a female volunteer who deals with their communications in English when liaising with international organisations, diplomats and foreign governmental offices enquiring about KDT, as global interest has increased since having provided information on voluntary deep-sea activities via their website already in eight languages.]
KDT Management is keen to encourage people to be pro-active in care of the environment, whether local in Kuwait, regionally or worldwide for the sake of our planet Earth, helping in whatever way possible on land or at sea because each person can make a difference..
Thus, the Kuwait Dive Team, voluntary charitable organisation is a member of “Clean Up the World”. KDT is a group of skilled deep-sea divers comprised with humanitarian Kuwaitis – male adults and young men who since 1991 and currently, are protecting, cleaning, rescuing, as well as rehabilitating the marine environment through very serious regular efforts, with demanding physical tasks throughout dedicated and distinct deep sea operations.
All Team members are volunteers, who are not paid for doing their tasks and they number 130 members, the eldest amongst them is 47 years old while the youngest is just 10. Currently, the Kuwait Dive Team activities enhance love of the marine environment, plus participation in public coastal activities to ‘Clean Up the World’.

For 18 years to date, the most important matters to them include Marine Environmental Protection [Arabian Gulf and World Oceans] teamwork, organisational work, leadership, personal sacrifice, dedicated environmental projects, patriotism and voluntary charitable work.
Clean Up the World aims … to bring together citizens from every corner of the globe in simple activities that will positively assist their local environments. To share with all nations and cultures information and practical experience that Clean Up Campagn founders and other environmental organisations have developed. To raise the awareness of governments, industries and communities about local environmental issues, particularly waste minimisation, recycling and waste management. Kuwaiti Summer Children’s Clubs perhaps also could highlight the importance of environmental protection during 2009.
World Environmental Achievement Award:
The Kuwait Dive Team was awarded the World Environmental Achievement Award of United Nations NAUI Organisation (Diving Trainers International Association) in 2000.
Many international teams of NAUI divers, whose numbers at that time were totalling seven million divers were nominated. The Kuwait Team was selected as the first team in serving the marine environment by means of voluntary work and on serious projects. The Team also won the United Nations Recognition Award on the occasion of Organisations’ Golden Jubilee in 1995. Additionally, the Team won the most supreme international honouring of NAUI, the International Organisation regarding International Environmental Achievement in 2000 and a monument of the Kuwait Dive Team’s name was established at the entrance of the Organisation’s venue in America.Every week they organise themselves as a co-operating group of men who freely offer their time on environmental marine services in the form of charitable voluntary work, giving to society and the world an example of national, as well as environmental sacrifice. Tasks include rescuing marine creatures and repairing coral reefs, providing habitats for sea-creatures, plus removing waste and discarded fishing nets. Protection of the marine environment and all wild-life which it holds is paramount to the Kuwait Dive Team. Also, promoting serious environmental awareness of different societal sections and groups, of whatever background.
Therefore they wish to demonstrate for local, regional and global internet viewers now, plus future generations, what is possible by way of working hard, voluntarily, for protecting other forms of life and our surrounding world oceans. Such activities instill a sense of belonging and service to one’s nation, plus serving humanity globally. Hence the Kuwait Dive Team is viewed via YouTube and Flickr, plus they feel honoured to be participating in the Campaign of “Clean Up the World”.
