Awful cartoon in Kuwait Times. Your Opinion?

Kuwait Times awful cartoon of Day

I felt a bit uncomfortable looking at it due to the graphic nature of it, and also bit dumb portrait of the crying dove. What do you think?

    Who is the cartoonist? I could not make out the name.
  • I think the cartoon is effective. It gets our attention dramatically, and it says what it wants to say. We can disagree - but hey - we are talking about it, aren't we, and isn't that the goal of an editorial cartoon - to express an opinion and get people talking?

    And yes, it is awful.

    @shosho: You are right, the plight of innocent people is ignored here, which infact is the reality of events taking place in Palestine conflict. But from an art point of view [and I am not artist just a reader] the cartoon should have been made with more cynical approach, rather than showing decapitated Tweety Birdish peace dove. But again this is the intent of the post, to criticize the art form, and not the meaning conveyed.

    I think that it is a successful caricature because of the very reason you found it awful. It succeeds in arousing in the readers feelings of disgust, repulsion, and nausea. And who said that caricatures should be amusing or timid? The cartoon however is not suitable for young readers, but if it is in a newspaper, then there is no fear of that, for the majority of newspaper readers are adults. The cartoon is not hat awful but what's happening in Palestine is.

    The thing that I find awful about it though is its oversimplification of the whole political situation. It looks as if Israel is completely out of the picture and is not currently contributing to the ongoing bloodshed.
  • gruesome, violent and disgusting.. if they want to express their opinions through art then i dont consider this a good example..
