Calling Kuwait a problem with new numbering system

Submitted by DA on Thursday, 12 February 2009View Comments

hmmm..this is interesting. Calling Kuwait numbers has become confusing from India [atleast]. Ever since the new numbering system was introduced, it seems calls to the new numbers with extra digits from India doesnt work. The only way to get through is to dial the old numbers without the extra digits, then we get a pre-recorded message saying that please add extra 5,6,9 before the number to connect in future. The same confusion applies for sending SMS’es. I wonder if this is the case from other countries and/or this is a problem with certain telcom operators in certain countries.

I agree, since past 1 month, starting mid january, i have a hard time calling to Kuwait, using calling card or even direct call.

Either the call quality is intolerably degraded (via calling card) or the direct line simply says all lines are busy. It has been years since I have heard any country being so busy that you cannot make a direct call, 99% of the time.

I even get connected to wrong numbers, which is ridiculous, I pay money, time and effort for nothing. So times I hear garbled voices as if many lines are connected at the same time.

I am sure some cable has snapped again under the sea or some technical issue which no one knows or wants to release publicly, I have no clue what can go so wrong. It was fine since past 3 years. In these days when satellites collide into each other anything can happen.
