I haven’t worn a watch since I had purchased my first mobile phone which is somewhere in 1998. So watches have been off my list of things I need / buy or would buy. But URWERK 202 is one timepiece that has sort of shaken my theory. URWERK 202 is beautiful, it is unique, it is technology, and it is desire remixed into one amazing watch. Watch the video and judge for yourself. Here are some of the salient feature of this watch:
- The UR-202 is also the world’s first wristwatch featuring an innovative new winding system regulated by compressed air
- There are two small turbines at the back of the watch that pump compressed air to wind the clockwork
- The way of displaying time is very innovative with Dial featuring: hours and minutes; moon-phase indication;
day/ night indicator - UR-202 also features URWERK’s patented Revolving Satellite Complication with telescopic minutes hands. The Revolving Satellite Complication displays time using telescopic minutes hands operating through the middle of three orbiting and revolving hours satellites
- Price tag US$ 100,000 upwards [Limited release of around 200 pieces only]
- Nearest retailer is Ahmed Siddiqi in UAE [LINK]

Meet Tayseer Al-Hamad, a hardcore techi who manages networks and communications department of one of the largest energy sector companies in Kuwait. Well this is how I was introduced to Tayseer 3 years back. Fast forward 3 years..yesterday we met at an event, and I saw him sporting a fancy SLR camera, and being a gizmo lover, I couldnt resist getting my hands on the Nikon D80. So we talked a bit about his camera, and his interest in photography. Turns out he has been a photography hobbyist since last year, and he has published some his work on Flickr and from the looks of it, they look wonderful especially the HDR. Meet Tayseer a brilliant upcoming photographer. Here are some samples of his work from Flickr. [Flickr LINK]
Here is an excerpt of our conversation:
1. What camera, software & equipment do you use?
Nikon D80 (Feb 2008)
Sony Cybershot H5 (Aug, 2006)
CF SanDisk Extreme III 4.0GB.
18-200mm f3.5-4.5G ED-IF VR AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor
24-85 mm 3.5-4.5 G AF-S Nikkor
Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM
Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX Macro Autofocus
Adobe Light Room 1.4
Capture NX Nikon
Adobe CS3 Photoshop
2. Techi transforming into a photographer? How & why?
I always thought photography is the mirror of your inside to the viewer, I admire the art of photography. I just started this in May, 2007 so I’m so far a tooth pusher and new into this world but with today new technology tools and information I can achieve good results in short time. It is really time consuming hobby and some sort expensive epically when you go for prime lens.
3. Next steps?
I would like to perfect techniques of night shoots, especially in low light. I am learning to add more artistic touch to my subject(s) by shooting from various angles. I love the idea of teaching photography at some stage. Since I have a full time commitment to my work, photography tends to be a hobby for the moment. But if an interesting opportunity or project comes by, I would definitely love to take it on.
