Review: Nandos at The Avenues

Although not early diners, we decided to get an early bite today. This is because we were expecting traffic jams and parking woes at The Avenues, given that today was the National Day and people would be flocking away from Gulf Road to the comfort of shopping and dining at the mall. Surprisingly we got [...]

Review: Gourmet Burger Kitchen at The Avenues

Saturday afternoon we caved in to Gourmet Burger Kitchen at The Avenues. Although the food court was jam packed, we got our table within minutes at GBK, and with the usual chant of ‘good afternoon sir, maam’ we were seated in.
First impressions, GBK is well placed, post-modern style furnished, and the joint has [...]

Review: United Networks 1Mb connection is rocking here

Well today United Networks [My Internet] sent in the technician to install the DSL connection, as promised within 3 days of subscription. The setup took like 15 minutes and the throughput has been amazing so far. Remember this is a trial connection which United Networks is offering for KD10/month only and is for 2 months. [...]

WTF: Expats in Bahrain to pay more for basic commodities

Earlier this month MPs backed a recommendation by parliament’s financial and economic affairs committee to subsidize food and other basic goods for nationals and exclude foreign workers from receiving any financial help to cope with rising inflation in the Gulf Arab state…

Old time joints in Salmiya gone in one shot

This corner of Salmiya market where joints like oldie Hungry Bunny existed..and more recently Chicken Tikka, KFC, and Baskin Robins did business, is now gone. Seems like they are demolishing the structure. This is right opposite the Al-Ghanem Store in Salmiya market. Golden memories…

VGarden at Arraya Center: Ripoff salads

VGarden a salad joint dropped by at our HQ promoting what else but salads. I picked up their Buffalo Chicken Salad, which set me back a whopping KD 2.350/- Once I opened the plastic box, got the shock of the day, as there were few tiny chicken pieces [count them as 6-8 only] and rest [...]

Kurdo: Lifesaver at 4pm

Haven’t seen many rather any shewerma joints offering well done shewermas as early as 4pm and especially in cold chilling winter days. Kurdo has been a lifesaver today when the temperatures were hovering near zero that too at mid-day. Great taste, lot of variations, middle of shopping area, easy accessibility, and fast service makes it [...]

Recipe: Masala Tuna

Cooking is fun and relaxing for me. Kind of takes out the stress factor. Here is my homegrown recipe for masala tuna. Tuna can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, be it with bread [preferably brown/multi grain], or rice, or spaghetti, or with good salad. Remember this recipe involves a mix of some basic [...]

Back to Kuwait: Cold weather, Inflated prices, Missing DJ, Work galore..am lovin it

Welcome to Kuwait of 2008…and a much needed warm welcome to me back in Kuwait. First impressions….Kuwait is cold weather-wise. To put it more delicately…friggin freezing wet’n cold. The cabbie was a-ok to compare Kuwait to London when he poured in all the chillness of last couple of days about how it went below zero [...]
