Who are the Bohras?

Dawoodi Bohras are the main branch of the Bohras, a Mustali subsect of Ismaili Shia Islam, and are based in India. Their spiritual leader is Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin. He is known as the Dai al-Mutlaq and is the 52nd Dai in an unbroken chain of Daiyuun. [src WikiPedia.com]

Bohras in Kuwait?

Yes there is a substantial number of Bohras in Kuwait mainly from the Dawoodi Bohras sect. The number is around 20,000. These bohras have been in Kuwait for many decades and are mainly involved in business related activities.

Where are bohras from?

Bohras in Kuwait are mainly from the Indian sub-continent. Bohras in general are spread through out the World from Americas to Europe to East Africa to Indian Sub-continent to Far-East to Oceania.

How many bohras are there around the World?

The current statistics put bohra community around the World at over 1 million.

Are bohras Muslims?

Yes bohras practice Islam and adhere strongly to its five pillars namely ;Shahadah, Salah, Zakat, Sawm and Hajj

Who is Syedna Dr. Burhannudin?

Syedna [pictures above] as the bohras call him or Dr. Burhannuddin as the World calls him, is the spiritual leader of bohras.He is regarded as a guide to the bohra community, and is credited to giving bohra comunity guidance on religion, social customs and teachings of Islam.

Religious practices of Bohras?

Bohras pray namaz or salat 5 times a day just like any other muslim would do. Since they have a large presence in Kuwait, they congregate at a common place to pray which they call masjid, hussainiya or hall. Many Bohras go for hajj and or umra every year. They fast during Ramadan and they celebrate both Eid -ul – Fitr and Eid – ul – Adha like every other muslim. They have compulsory zakat that they have to give every month.

Do bohras have a customary attire?

Yes bohras have a traditional attire for both men and women. Men wear a cap [topi] which is white in color, cylindrical with some embroidery and women wear full length hijab [rida]. They do not wear black hijab.

    Reference to the link from kuwait times…..What tabtabae said is 100% false, who says bohra dont pray 5 times, do not fast or do not go to Hajj. i am a bohra and adhere to all the 5 pillars of Islam.
