Update: There is definitely a performance boost after installing SP3! Lets hope its much better after full release.
Windows XP SP3 - Release Candidate is available to limited users only. But now you can download and install the Service Pack 3 if you follow the steps below.

- Download this [LINK] patch file
- UnZip the file and double-click on the WinXP_SP3_Patch.cmd file
- This will make minor changes to your registry only
- Start Internet Explorer and select TOOLS > Windows Update or go to this site [LINK]
- Let the site install and update your machine with any patches and updates
- The site may also ask to update Windows Update tool, let it update that too
- In case the Microsoft gets stuck while checking for updates close the browser and start your browser again
- Internet Explorer should automatically be able to indicate Win XP SP3 as available download [see the pic above]
- Download XP SP3, this is about 70 Mb..install and enjoy

@lamiaah: So far the details are bit sketchy as this is RC1. I am testing the environment myself, but from reports, it sort of fixes around 900 bugs!!

I tried what you said and the update stands in 0% for a long time. Usually 70mb files should probably be done now.
@smackall: You are right the downloader will seem stuck but wait for sometime and it will automatically install. This is a bug in SP3 updater. Things will smooth out with full release
OK, the hack makes me eligible but SP3 still won’t install. How do I get rid of the hack? My computer keeps downloading and trying to install SP3 and fails every time. I’m ready to give up. Thanks for the hack, by the way.
