Idea: Manufacturing glass

Everyday we come across hundreds of products that have glass as a component or are made of glass. It could be the dial cover of your watch, or screen of your mobile phone, television screens, beverage bottles etc etc…

As far as I know the basic ingredient for manufacturing glass is sand, and we have that in much abundance in Kuwait, and of course more accessible than oil, so how come there are no major manufacturers of glass and related products in Kuwait? So far I have heard of a company called Rifai Glass which is based in Shuwaikh, behind the City Center, I believe they are into manufacturing glass.

I am sure glass manufacturing can be a lucrative business since, for example, there is huge demand for glass as construction material, in construction industry of Kuwait and Gulf region. And raising capital in Kuwait wouldn’t be a problem for an enterprising businessman.

Any thoughts..inputs?

I guess as long as Kuwaities don’t comprehend the importance of education for the future of their country, meaningful ideas likes yours will never be realized, because Kuwait lacks everything from engineers to skilled workers (in case any Kuwaiti will someday even THINK about doing anything but office jobs):-)
Now I don’t know any numbers, but I would guess that if half of what is spend on new malls is spend on improving the partially miserable kuwaiti education system, the future of the country after oil could be saved. We europeans understood long time ago that the real wealth of any country is its people.
