India’s financial capital Mumbai under attack: Hostage drama continues

Submitted by DA on Thursday, 27 November 2008View Comments

Last night 10pm [IST] / 7:30pm Kuwait time, an unprecedented attack took place on India’s financial capital Mumbai [Bombay]. At least 16 terrorists stormed the city’s restaurants, luxury hotels [Taj and Oberoi Sheraton], CST railway station, various suburban areas, and even hospitals [GT and Cama].

Casualties include several top Indian police officers, foreign tourists, and over 100 other Indian nationals. The area of Taj and Oberoi hotels is located on the tourist hub of Mumbai, Colaba and Nariman Point respectively. These areas are favorite of Kuwaiti tourists also. Mumbai’s landmark hotel Taj Mahal is engulfed in fire as the terrorists have been throwing hand-grenades in the vicinity.

The situation is grim at the moment as the terrorists have been holed up in Taj and Oberoi hotels and have several hostages. The drama still continues as the commando force is preparing to storm in the hotels.

This is a shameful and cowardly attack on the City famous for its cosmopolitan nature.
