The KDE desktop sucks compared to the GNOME desktop. OpenOffice comes straight with Ubuntu you dont have to download it. But anyway yes. Ubuntu and Kubuntu, etc are both beautiful linux operating systems, especially when compared to WinBloze. The major down point about the Ubuntu's are that they are debian based. RedHat based Linux is much much better. If your in for a big download. You really must try out Suse Linux which is RedHat based. Amazing stuff, its just sooo compatible with everything, hardware especially, W-NET card works great. I managed to get it networked very easily in a multi operating system network. The company that owns Suse made all your OpenOffice apps and even all the endless 3D desktop effects (try installing it on ubuntu or kubuntu it works great). There are bloody more desktop effects in Linux then there are in Mac OS X!! Ok. P.S. Newbie linux people, dont just stick to one distro of linux, you must have a taste of different kinds.
