Residential DSL prices in Kuwait: June 2008

Seems there is a swing of prices on lower and higher end bandwidth connection in the DSL market. Ideal home connections of 256-512 Kbps are showing a trend of competitive pricing.

  • United Networks [myinternet] takes #1 spot with KD 150 + WiFi modem and monthly payment in the 256 Kbps band. Although their customer service is questionable
  • There is a tie for #1 spot in 512 Kbps band between KEMS and FastTelco with KEMS offering DSL+Zajil wifi+dial up and FastTelco with lower pricing + iPod Nano [yearly payments]. I would choose FastTelco over KEMS due to infrastructure and reliability
  • In higher segments of 1MB plus there is a tie for #1 spot between FastTelco and United Networks. FastTelco is offering from iPod Classic to Apple TV + addons where as United is lower in pricing + monthly options
  • Of all the DSL providers QualityNet is lagging behind in terms of pricing and add-on offerings

    Hi,

    Thanks for the info. What about the double speed the Qnet is offering? I also heard that showtime is also a provider of ADSL services. How are they? Being new to Kuwait, would appreciate your inputs and guidance. I primarily use the net for general surfing and downloading movies. what would be the ideal speed required?

    Also considering ADSL or mobile internet e.g. e-go.

    Thanks.

    @Muiz: QualityNet double speed is a great offer as the prices are relatively cheaper and service is great. Activation will take probably 2-3 days. I have posted another article on this.
    As for ShowTime yes there is internet service but that is via United Networks.
    As for speed I would suggest you take up 256Kbps from QualityNet and double-up for 512Kbps. Bear in mind that all ISP’s here monitor the usage and have blocked lot of peer-2-peer [torrent] sites, so you may not be able to access some of your favorite sites.

    @nasser -
    Satellite connection may be available from Orbit. But your best option is to get a Internet over Mobile through one of the telcos. Zain has e-GO, Wataniya has W-Net, and VIVA has V-Net. If your mobile works then these devices will also work. Only catch is KD 27 pm for unlimited usage.
