doesn’t seem like a stupid question to me. in kuwait and elsewhere expats are deported for protesting unpaid wages and poor working conditions. Having the right to strike seems reasonable and yet the law forbids it.
What other options would you suggest they employ? If you weren’t paid for four, six or eight months, what would you do? What would you do if you barely had money to live, your employer held your passport and you couldn’t afford to even buy a plane ticket home?
The “question” in question is stupid, because this is common sense that every worker has [should have] a right to protest against unfair practices. If the law forbids it than that would tantamount to slavery. And that work should not be called “work” but “slave labor camp”.
Common sense? Have you read Al-Watan daily? Or the Gulf News? In Dubai the government is deporting workers who strike over unpaid wages. Asking residents/citizens of Kuwait or any Gulf state if these laborers should have basic legal rights – and have those rights actually protected and enforced – isn’t stupid. Its necessary.
You would rather that there is no debate, no questions asked? What should be and what are – are two different things.
