Went around the regular gizmo joints Al-Ghanim, Sony and Eureka to check out some point-n-shoot digital cameras. From specs and price point of view I am trying to decide between Canon and Sony. Here is the pick list:

Amazon is offering the latest in the Canon series Canon PowerShot SD900 Titanium 10MP + Kingston 2Gb Memory Card for a total of US$ 350 [KD 100] approx. Add shipping charges through UShopWeShip and I guess the total comes around KD 110 approx.

U have mentioned just Pixel counts and zoom, which is the way Point-n-shoots used to compared till maybe last year. Now you have some must haves which make Point-n-shoots pictures nearer to the pro stuff. I'm talking about stuff like face detection, wide angle (28mm), optical image stabilisation or vibration reduction (dont fall for the Digital image stabilisation though, it is a con job, just pushes your ISO settings up to 1600 or higher and gives you a grainy finish).
To see a balanced view of what the world is buying, suggest going to Amazon, and then sorting the cams in "bestselling".

@Anony: True I just updated the post with details of latest Canon SD900, which along with 2GB card and shipping to Kuwait comes around KD 110. So much for rip-off, this is bloody theft on part of Kuwaiti companies.

@7usam: You are right Canon has been reviewed constantly better then Sony, and I have made up my mind to go with Canon

Whatever you do, don't buy cameras in Kuwait. Buy from amazon then ship through aramex. I bought 2 cameras this way and saved around 50%, one of them was #1 on your list, which I got for 110KD. (Shipping cost is less than 10KD).

And to hell with warranty, even if your camera gets broken, and you have to pay to fix it, it will be STILL CHEAPER than buying it from Kuwait.

Let those "wikalat" eat shit.
