Vacation mode: ‘Dev D’ the movie

Submitted by DA on Tuesday, 10 February 2009View Comments

Came back from Jaipur yesterday, and what a way to end the amazing trip by watching Dev D just few hours before departure. Dev D a remake of the classical DevDas is a story of lost love, addiction, contemporary lifestyle and new love written with the stories of 3 characters Dev, Paro and Chanda.

Forget the traditional Indian cinema before you watch this movie as this movie has blown to bits the songs and dances tag of Bollywood cinema. Dev D is an exemplary movement of new cinema from radical director Anurag Kashyap. It has a thorough rib-tickling musical score, and some of the slickest cinematography with buttery editing yet to come out of Bollywood. The movie actually succeeds in showing the face of modern India awash with money, greed, addiction and lost lifestyle. Hats off to Abhay Deol for an inspiring performance in the movie and carrying the weight of entire biopic for 2 hours 30 minutes.

One important thing is that this movie is not for family because of certain bold depictions, and if you are watching it in Kuwait avoid the cinema [what a pity]. Get it on a DVD and watch at home.
